Do they drain you, overwhelm you, steal your heart, break your heart and cause you more anxiety than you ever dreamed possible?
Maybe you only have one boy amongst a sea of estrogen and you just can?t figure out how to respond to him in a way that affirms all that is good about his masculinity.
Last May, over 1300 women and a few dads in SEVEN different countries joined together to pray purposefully and passionately for the hearts of their sons in a challenge called 21 Days of Prayer for Sons. 21 Days is based on the best-selling eBook Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most.
Even our best parenting efforts don’t come with a guarantee. As much as we might wish we could change their hearts of stone to hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26), we can’t. But we serve a God who can. Knowing this, it becomes quite clear that there is only one thing we can do?
Pray.
?The fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.? James 5:17.
It?s our hope.
The next 21 Days of Prayer for Sons challenge starts September 6 and ends September 26, 2011. How can you participate? Easy!

Read: Overcoming Fear, Conclusion, The Prayer That Started It All
Brooke talks about a sense of fear in parenting… I call it the fear that I’ll mess up my kids. I always thought I couldn’t be a “boy mom” and yet I knew that God was going to give me boys. Everything that I do as mom affects them. That’s a sobering reality. What am I doing to point them to God? At the same time, God reminds me that it isn’t about me. It is humbling when I see my boys thrive and succeed in spite of me.
This has been an incredible journey. I intend to regularly pray these sets of scriptures over my boys. I also plan to find additional scriptures to pray over my boys.
I’m reading a couple of other parenting books right now too. I’ll conclude my 21 days of prayer series with some follow up resources that you might like.

Read: The Power of Forgiveness
In our home, children are allowed to say they’re sorry if the result of their behavior was an accident.
Until reading this, I hadn’t really thought about how to teach my boys the difference between an apology and forgiveness. I don’t think I really practice the difference between the two.
The need for forgiveness occurs when one child (or one adult, for that matter) has deliberately sinned against another.
Often it’s the simplest distinctions that have a profound affect on the way we understand the world.
I plan to start implementing this distinction in our discipline plan. In many cases, I firmly believe in introducing concepts before a child can fully comprehend them and allowing them to grow into the ideas.
I have asked my boys to forgive me when I’ve made a bad choice or wasn’t in control of my attitude. It is important for me to model the things that I expect of them.
Pray: Honesty
Pray the scriptures about honesty over your sons.
