Week 11 Reflections:
Train Up a Child

Train-up-a-child

The Proverbs 31 woman is blessed by her children:

Her children rise up and call her blessed
Proverbs 31:28a

If you’re in the stage of the littles like me, you’re probably laughing.

If you have teenagers, you might be laughing even harder.

Call me blessed? Seriously? Have you met my kids?

Ok. So, it’s not likely that my toddler is going to run up to be and tell me that I’m the greatest mom in the world multiple times each day. It’s not likely that my 5 year old is going to tell me thank you for putting him in time out. But over the long haul, I pray that I’m raising them to follow God so that when they are adults, they will look back and see what I’ve tried to do. Then I pray that they will call me blessed.

How are you training your kids? Will they one day call you blessed? Share in the comments. Make sure you go visit Kelli at Adventurez in ChildRearing too! Grab the button code from this page to share.

Week 8 Reflections:
Smile at the Future

Proverbs-31-Woman-Smile-at-the-Future

Smile at the future. The Proverbs 31 woman does.

Your future may look dark and stormy. It may look bright at beautiful. It may be really blurry and uncertain. Not matter what the future holds, you can smile. You can even laugh. Why?

The Proverbs 31 woman doesn’t have to fear. She’s prepared, but she has also put her trust in the right place. She knows that God is in control, no matter what the circumstances or the outcome.

Can you smile at the future? Where is your trust? Share in the comments. Make sure you go visit Kelli at Adventurez in ChildRearing too! Grab the button code from this page to share.

Week 5 Reflections:
Work Hard, Sleep Well

She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
Proverbs 31:18

The Proverbs 31 Woman never slept. Her lamp didn’t  go out. Sleep? Who has time to sleep?

Wrong!

The Proverbs 31 Woman worked hard all day and into the evening. In order to get up early, she had to sleep at some point. She had to rest to work as hard as she did.

You need to take care of yourself. I personally need a lot of sleep to function well. I need a good 8 hours. Some people, like my husband Josh, can get away with less, but everyone has a functional minium.

Ideally, I’d like to be up at 6am. That doesn’t happen as often as I’d like for it to because I tend to stay up too late. In order to get up at 6am, I need to be in bed at 10pm. So my goals is to consistently be in bed as close to 10pm as possible.

How much sleep do you need? What’s your ideal wake-up time? How are you going to make it work?  Share in the comments and/or link up a blog post. Make sure you go visit Kelli at Adventurez in ChildRearing too! Grab the button code from this page.

Week 4 Reflections:
What’s Your Field?

The Proverbs 31 Woman is quite the business woman:

She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
Proverbs 31:16

Seriously?

When is the last time you ventured out and purchased real estate on your own? Not me! But here’s what I did do: I figured out what I enjoy doing and what God has gifted me to do. Then, I figured out how do it in a way to benefit my family financially.

The result?

That income combined with a tax refund, small amounts I squeezed out of our tight budget, and some extra money Josh was able to bring in enable us to pay off over $6,000 in debt in 3.5 months. Josh’s student loan, gone. You can read the story and read the technical details of how we used You Need a Budget to track our finances. That all came about because I wanted to be a Proverbs 31 woman. I wanted to follow God and be debt-free.

Every day I work as a VA and technical assistant for multiple clients. That’s my field. My profit runs my business and pays off our debt. That’s my fruit.

What’s your field? How are you going to buy it and make a profit? What are you doing to do with your profit? Share in the comments and/or link up a blog post. Make sure you go visit Kelli at Adventurez in ChildRearing too! Grab the button code from this page.

Week 3 Reflections:
Attitude Check

Here are a few thoughts from my reading this week:

  • Who am I working for? God or man?
  • Work with delight.
  • What’s my perspective?
  • How’s my attitude?
  • Be diligent.

My attitude is important. My attitude affects my whole family. This is especially important for me to remember because I deal with depression. I have to take regular inventory of my attitude and check my focus. I have to focus on joy in the middle of my depression – thus one of the reasons I named my ebook Finding Joy in Depression.

How is your attitude? How have you seen your attitude affect your family? Positive? Negative? Share in the comments and/or link up a blog post. Make sure you go visit Kelli at Adventurez in ChildRearing too! Grab the button code from this page.
