I was settling in after dinner to do a little schoolwork with Jonathan while waiting for Josh to get home from work. Around 5:45 p.m., we were starting to read the second story out of Stories from Africa from our Sonlight P 4/5 curriculum, but we only made it to the second page….
The little girl in the story, named Titi, learned about God at the village school from the missionary teacher. Titi prayed to ask Jesus to take away her sin and be her friend. I paused to remind Jonathan that this is what Daddy and I had been talking to him about. I reminded him that he could pray that same thing when he was ready and he could tell Mommy or Daddy whenever he was ready.
Now, up until this point, Jonathan has changed the subject or said he wasn't ready. But this time was different… He said, “I want to do it now.” I ask if he was sure. I asked if he wanted to wait for Daddy. Nope. He was ready now. He clearly said, “I want to ask Jesus to take away my sins and be my friend now. I don't want to wait.”
We stopped right there and prayed together. I told him that I'd help him by giving him some words that he could say, but he kind of took over it prayed for himself… He asked Jesus to take away his sin and to be his friend!
This first thing we did was call Daddy at work to tell him. Needless to say, Josh was so excited!
I snapped this picture shortly after so that we would remember today forever! I'm still in shock, but I came quickly to the computer to type up the story so we would remember the details too.
So, today, Friday, April 29, 2011, Jonathan asked Jesus to take away his sin and be his friend. At 4 years old, my little boy has crossed from death to life and is now a Christ-follower!
