I'm so excited about this coming school year. I'm probably more excited than Jonathan. I know I have an obsession with books and school supplies. I've been like this all my life. I have no rehab plans. 🙂
Here are our plans for 2011-2012, which will be Kindergarten for Jonathan:
- Sonlight Core A – This is our history, literature, and geography. Great books include The Wizard of Oz, The Boxcar Children, The House at Pooh Corner, and much more!
- Spell to Write & Read with Pathway Readers and Workbooks – We made it through List D this year. We will go back to the beginning and see how far we make it this year. We have the third 1st grade workbook to do in the Pathway series and then we will move on to the 2nd grade books and workbooks.
- Apologia's Exploring Creation with Astronomy – I think Jonathan is most excited about this book. This is a wonderfully written and designed science book written in a Charlotte Mason style.
- Apologia's Who is God? – This is Apologia's new worldview and apologetics curriculum. Much of this will be beyond Jonathan, but we want to start building a good foundation now. This book will give him some theological basics. There are four books in the series. If it goes well, I can see us doing two four-year cycles with this series.
- Math Mammoth Light Blue Series 1st Grade – We jumped from Saxon Math to Math Mammoth and have been so happy with it so far. So much better for me as a teacher which is important since I am not a math person. That's Daddy's specialty, not mine!
- Hooked on Phonics French – We started this a year ago. We do a little at a time as we feel like it.
- Anything else that interests us along the way.
I'm fairly Charlotte Mason in my approach, but I pick up other styles where they fit us. In one way, I do lean towards a classical method – I give Jonathan a lot of info that might be above him, but I don't expect mastery at this age. It is more for introduction and exploration though he usually retains more than I think he will.

If you have any questions about our curriculum, please feel free to ask. Also, if you're using any of the same curriculum, leave a comment and share your blog so I can connect with you through out the year to share ideas. While you're at it, I hope that you'll subscribe to my RSS or email to see what we continue to do this year.
