What does a “typical” day look like at The Pelsers? Of course every day is a little different, but here is the general flow of a day for us.
Wake up, breakfast, play, get read for the day. The timing of this really varies, but I am doing my best to be up by 6 am so I can take care of myself and a few things around the house before the boys are up.
Around 8 or 9 am we start school work. We do Bible reading, memory verse work, calendar, math, and reading every day. I break up our Sonlight schedule so that we focus on one book each day rather than a little from multiple books each day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we're working our way through Who is God? from Apologia. Wednesdays are science day with Apologia's Exploring Creation with Astronomy. We do what we can while baby is up and we do the things that need more focus or attention from mom while Jacob is down for his morning nap. I try to keep Fridays more relaxed. We catch up on anything we missed earlier in the week, extra things we want to do and read-aloud books.
After school work is done, which usually takes us less than two hours each day, Jonathan plays until lunch time. I get things done around the house and online during this short window. We usually do lunch in the living room with a movie which will extend into quiet time. Movies are usually educational in nature. Right now, we're watching a lot of documentaries about space to go with our Astronomy study.
Jacob goes down for a second nap mid-afternoon. During that time Jonathan plays or lays down for a bit. This is when I get additional things done around the house, online, and prep for dinner. By 5pm, we're picking up our messes and making dinner in preparation for Daddy's arrival home from work.
Sometimes Jonathan will save something to do with Daddy in the evening. He especially likes to do math with Daddy or show him things that he did or learned that day before bed time.
That's a typical day in the life of The Pelsers. How do you structure your day?
