Seasons of a Mother's Heart Book Cover

I'm linking up with Home with the Boys and reading Seasons of a Mother's Heart by Sally Clarkson.   If you'd like to join in, here is the original post from Erin with the details and reading schedule.

Some of my favorite quotes from this chapter:

  • (referring to homeschooling) But I wasn't really thinking about whether or not it would be enjoyable, only that it was the right thing to do. pg. 111
  • God already prepared them (my children) to learn, and I just needed to give them room. I am simply a facilitator, releasing skills and abilities already there in my children. pg. 112
  • I didn't realize how fulfilling it would be to walk with my children day by day as their spirits softened to God. pg. 113
  • It should not have been surprising to me, but it was, that children so young could have such deep thoughts about God and eternity, and disturbing doubts as well. pg. 113
  • … the home should be a place to reinforce creativity. pg. 116
  • I truly believe that if most people really realized just how rewarding and fulfilling the homeschool lifestyle is, they would want to giveit a try. The problem is, you don't really realize it until you've done it for a while, so few in our culture are willing to make the commitment. pg. 117

I was afraid to homeschool.  I didn't think I could do it.  It was Josh who planted the seed long before we were married or even engaged.  I've written about my journey into homeschooling before.  It is definitely God who brought me around and softened my heart to the idea.

I didn't think I could handle being with my kids 24/7.

I didn't think that I could educate them as well as a trained teacher.

I didn't think that I would enjoy it.

My boys are still little – 4.5 and almost 1 – but I have to say that I do love it.  There are trying days.  No doubt.  Days that you declare movie day, like yesterday for us.  But the days that you see the progress and the spark of learning are so worth it.  I even got to be the one to pray with Jonathan to receive Christ and make his decision to become a Christ-follower.  All because I was home with him and homeschooling him.
