Real, raw, and honest.
That's how Habakkuk is as he cries out to God. Just like the Psalmists. He is frustrated by the perversion that exists – the bending and twisting of truth and justice that is taking place all around him.
Therefore the law is ignored
And justice is never upheld.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
Therefore justice comes out perverted.
Habakkuk 1:4
Emotion is ok. Even strong emotion is ok. We just have to direct that emotion to the proper place and use it in the proper way. God wants us to express ourselves to Him with the fullness of who He has created us to be and that includes real, raw, and honest emotions.
Happy.
Sad.
Angry.
Disappointed.
All of your real, raw, and honest emotions.
And God's response?
Look among the nations! Observe!
Be astonished! Wonder!
Because I am doing something in your days-
You would not believe if you were told.
Habakkuk 1:5
He reveals to Habakkuk that He's there, always at work behind the scenes, whether we know it or believe it or not. He's always there, working in ways beyond our understanding.
Habakkuk questions God's method, but he can acknowledge God's unchanging character. I must recognize that God has methods and reasons I cannot always understanding. I must trust that I serve a God who is ultimately good and is working to draw all people to Himself.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
