I told you a few weeks ago that we made a huge goal: Pay off Josh's student loan this year. That goals requires $500 a month outside of our regular budget.
Well, February was a good month. I did our taxes. (Never thought I'd put those two sentences together!) I expected to have a refund, but I didn't expect much. I was surprised to find that our semi-recent employment changes and adding a child to our household really affected our taxes. Take a look:

We put our entire federal tax refund, some left over money in a couple of budget areas, one of my VA jobs, plus some extra found money towards our goal.
One of the ways that I was able to stay on track and “find” money was because I'm using a program called You Need a Budget or YNAB. It's a simple money tracking and budgeting software that works on the envelope idea. I love it. It works like I think. (Maybe that's kind of scary…) I can easily see where all of our money is across various accounts and what it has been allotted for. I'll share more soon, but in the mean time, I highly recommend that you download their 34 day free trial.
This goal started as one that appeared out of reach. A complete God goal for the year. And, you know what? It was and He's already shown that He can pay off this loan this year!
One more baby step to debt-freedom!
