I'm in the process of sharing quotes, tidbits, and reflections from the various sessions at the Apologia Live Retreat which I had the opportunity to attend recently. Start here to read about my over all experience at the Apologia Live Retreat and head over to this post to read reflections from other sessions.
Discipleship with Rachael Carman
Just like if you try to watch a 3D movie without 3D glasses, if you don't have the right perspective, your experience will be flat and blurry.
- Discipline – Motherhood means sacrifice.
- Discernment – Ask God who your kids are supposed to be.
- Diligence – Our kids need to know that we're not giving up on them.
- Delight – Take joy in your kids.
These were such great reminders, especially the part about motherhood meaning sacrifice. Our society has a skewed perception of the place for our kids. Either the kids run the family or they are put behind the wants of the parents. There's a balance to be struck here. This is particularly difficult for moms because the role of mom is not glamorous. It requires a lot of self-sacrifice even when we're living at the balance point between these extremes.
Have you found this balance? How do you incorporate these 4 D's into your life?
