And now, Day 1…
Read: Introduction and The Battle.
Introduction
“Warriors, protectors, worshippers, peacemakers and friends – these are the dreams I have for my little ones.”
Ambitious goal? I don't think so. It is really what God has called men to be.
… our boys need strong parents now more than ever. We're losing then; raising a generation of weak men.
You've seen these weak mean. Rude. Disrespectful. Act like they are accountable to no one. Lazy. Don't take care of their families. Abandon their wives and children. Even worse, belittle or abuse their families and more.
So, what can we as moms do?
“Plead with God.
Pray.”
What better way than to pray scripture over our boys? Pray that God will change their hearts and that he'll do it…
“In spite of me.”
The Battle
“God takes the way we raise our son quite seriously.”
We see in 1 Samuel 2-4 that God held Eli accountable for the way that he raised he sons. God will also hold us accountable and when we look around us, it feels like we're losing the battle. But,
“The call of God to raise men to know Him and fear Him still stands.”
Prayer is the only way to accomplish this.
Study Questions
Tell us a little bit about you and answer some of the study questions that provoked the most thought and reflection for you. Share your stories about raising boys and how praying these scriptures is affecting you and your families.
As you can see from the pictures here on my blog, my boys are young: 4 and almost 7 months. Since Josh and I started trying to have children, I just knew that God was going to give me boys. I don't know why. I just had this feeling. When I was pregnant with Jonathan I really thought he was a girl. Wrong. Then I thought the same thing with Jacob. Wrong again. Now, I'm not sure if I'd know what to do with a girl!
I'm thankful that I have such a wonderful husband who is a great role model for my boys. Let's not forget to pray for our husbands or whoever the primary male role model in your sons' life is during this time too.
It is a little scary to think that a man like Eli got it wrong. If he couldn't raise his sons, then I'm doomed! But then I remember that as Christ-followers, God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us. We have the Bible as a guide too. We have such rich wisdom and promises available to us. We can do this! Generations of men to come are counting on us. You and me. We have to do this!
