The Pelsers

A Shelter for the Heart

Counting Down: The End of Preschool

We only have three more days left in our preschool curriculum.  Yes, only 3 more.  Jonathan picked up the pace on me again this past week and we've been reading and doing extra workbook pages.  So, Friday is now our last day of preschool.  {*sniff, sniff*}

What a great year it has been with Sonlight P3/4 and P4/5!  We've read so many great stories.

Jonathan was looking for something to do yesterday afternoon, so we started on Sonlight Readers 1 and LA 1.  I hadn't planned to start for two more weeks.  He blew through the first two weeks of reading in 15 minutes.  I figured that he would – I scheduled each week in the instructor guide for one day since that will be the bulk of what we're doing for the next six weeks.  There are a lot of exercises in LA 1 that are probably above him but we're trying them anyway.  He did fine with comprehension, the copywork and the first two activity pages.  I suspect that he'll have more trouble with the creative writing, but he'll mostly be dictating to me, not doing the writing for himself.

I've been reading The Well-Trained Mind over the last few days.  I'm finding that there are more classical elements that fit with Charlotte Mason than I realized.  I'm looking for ways to include more classical elements into my method of homeschooling.

I can't believe that my little boy is almost in Kindergarten!
