Maybe I should have titled this: Our Messy School Room. Ok, it's not that bad, but Jacob is getting into everything these days so I have to keep moving things higher and spaces become cluttered quickly.
Come with me and enter our schoolroom!
We are fortunate to have an extra bedroom in our little three bedroom house right now. The boys share the smaller of the two regular bedrooms and we use the larger as our school room / office. We have a fairly large kitchen and I have thought about ways to do school in there if we ever have to give up this room. I do my best to keep the room clean and organized, but are you can see “El Destructo” is on the move and into everything! There are plenty of toys for him to play with in this room, but he would prefer to eat paper and dump trashcans.
Immediately to your left are our posters and the low whiteboard. The yellow poster is for Hooked on Phonic French. The US Map has pictures of family so we can see where everyone lives. Of course we have the alphabet chart and calendar. {Hmm, looks like a few of those dates need new sticky dots.} On the wall to the other side of the entry door is a world map. That area of the room also has a small bookcase and a very messy desk which I refuse to photograph right now.
Just to the other side of that mess of a desk that we won't talk about, is this little computer desk. We got it for $20 at Ikea. {Love Ikea!} A cheap little netbook lives here. Jonathan uses it for Hooked on Phonics French, other computer games, Starfall.com, PBSKids.org, etc.
This is where most of the work happens. My computer is over on the right. Josh built and installed these shelves on the sides the window this summer. That was a great addition to the room. The room has a vaulted ceiling, so we've been thinking about making use of the vertical space by adding a shelf all the way around the room to hold curriculum that we don't get into very often, things we're storing for Jacob, things were waiting to use with Jonathan, portfolios, etc.
This is our little work table. Again, $20 at Ikea. {Love, love Ikea.} Jonathan should be able to use it for a while longer and Jacob will be able to sit at it for many years. It is a nice size for one small child to spread out and work or for two children to work on small things at the same time.
This is where our daily things live. The tower is labeled Math, Reading, Science, Spell to Read & Write, Who is God?, and French. The magazine files are used as pseudo-workboxes and labeled Monday through Friday. Basic supplies like crayons and markers are on the shelves. Our Ikea abacas is kept close at hand for math. {I love Ikea. Have I told you that?}
