I've been wanting to read The 5 Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell for a while. Josh and I found the original book, The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, very helpful when we were dating. It helped us build a good foundation for our marriage so I had high expectations for The 5 Love Languages of Children and I was not disappointed.
The 5 love languages that are discussed are identical to the original book, but The 5 Love Languages of Children gives examples of how they might appear in children. All children need to receive love in all 5 love languages, but after the preschool age, each child starts to develop a primary way of giving and receiving love. The key is figuring our what that primary language is a be intentional about speaking in the language.
Chapters 7-10 are a wealth of knowledge on ways to discover what your child's love language is, how to best discipline, how to best learn, and how curb anger. Your child's primary love language might not be easy to determine at first, but these tips will help. There are even some suggestions for games to play with older children to help find their love language.
The 5 Love Languages of Children should be on your must read list of parenting books.
Even Jacob wants to find out what his love language is!
