Puberty. The thought of walking this windy, bumpy road with my soon to be 9-year-old makes me want to run the other direction. Probably not the best choice!

Every parent comes to a place where they have to deal with puberty and their child. You have a couple of choices. You can run and ignore it or you can prepare yourself and your child. If you choose to prepare, how do you talk to and teach your child through these changes in a way that lines up with your Biblical worldview?

Unfortunately, the Bible doesn't give parents or young adults a nice, neat, step-by-step plan for navigating these years or these changes. But, the Bible is far from silent on the topics of puberty and sexuality. Finding the information and figuring out how to use it to talk to your kids is the first hurdle. Luke and Trisha Gilkerson have jumped that hurdle for you in their new book, Changes: 7 Biblical Lessons to Make Sense of Puberty.

Changes: Teaching About Puberty from a Biblical Perspective

The first book in this series is called The Talk: 7 Lessons to Introduce Your Child to Biblical Sexuality. Now Luke and Trisha are tackling puberty.

Making Sense of Puberty

Changes has a very thorough introduction for parents on how to use the book. I found the introduction alone quite helpful in relieving some fears and concerns about dealing with and discussing puberty with my boys. Changes then contains 7 information-packed devotional style lessons complete with Scripture to read, talking points, questions to discuss with your child, and a prayer.

I'm impressed with how well-written and laid out Changes is. Puberty is a tough topic to tackle, but Luke and Trisha have done a phenomenal job. They've found a way to integrate biblical teaching and scientific facts with simple language and a flow that just makes sense. I wish I'd had this book as a pre-teen!

While I'm still not exactly excited about walking this road of puberty with my boys, I definitely feel more prepared!
