In my life this week…
- We took Jacob for his nine month check up on Wednesday. He's doing great.
- He is 27 inches long and almost 18 pounds; that is right about 50% for weight and height.
- We thought that we'd be starting testing for Celiac, but that turned out not to be the case. {See our oatmeal story} I left the doctor's office kind of frustrated and defeated. I know that a diagnosis for Celiac can take time and sometimes the tests produce false negatives. And, we love our doctor. He just doesn't seem to know much about Celiac or how severe it can be. The research continues. We trying to decide if we should challenge his digestive system and try a true gluten containing grain and see how he reacts or wait until he's older.
- He is starting to stand for a few seconds on his own.
- I finally got a picture of what we've dubbed his “signature” move. My iPad is what I had available at the time and it was work to get this picture! The wrist turn cracks me up. He switches hands. Then he'll use both arms at the same time. When he does it while standing, he looks like a gymnast posing after sticking a difficult landing.
In our homeschool this week…
- Math, math and more math.
- A little bit of reading.
- Math, math, and more math.
Jonathan is obsessed with math this week. The introduction of this fun tool probably helped:
Using his cool abacas from Ikea, Jonathan has done all of an addition workbook and half of a subtraction workbook from the Target $1 spot. When I try to move him on to something else, he begs to continue his math. So, we do more math. The result: he has “rememorized” {as he says} some of his math facts.
I am inspired by…
I'm getting so much out of Educating the Wholehearted Child. If you're reading it or have read it, join the discussion.
My favorite thing this week was…
- Listening to Jacob laugh.
- Listening to Jonathan read.
- Watching my boys play together.
- Seeing Jonathan surprise himself when he's able to memorize a scripture verse longer than he thinks he can handle.
- Watching my “big” boy help pick out his new bunk bed at Ikea. He just had to sleep on the top bunk that first night… and he loved it!
I'm reading…
- The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson with GoodMorningGirls.org. We're reading about the gift of service this week.

Jonathan was making Jacob laugh yesterday afternoon. Who can resist a baby laugh?
