Kids in the Word Wednesdays

We've been tackling some big questions about God in the past couple weeks in Who is God?:

Does God exist?

How many gods are there?

What does God look like?

Is God a person?

Even at four, Jonathan sees that these are important questions to who we are and how we live.  He understands that God exists and that there is just one God.  We even used some big words like atheist and polytheism which he is now able to define.  I loving seeing Jonathan's innocent faith.  These things make sense to him.  Many adults have a hard time wrapping their minds around these concepts, but a child is able to trust and believe so much more easily.

When we were researching how to homeschool and looking at the different methods of homeschooling, the Charlotte Mason method stood out to me.  She stood up against what she called “twaddle” – the watering down of literature and ideas.  Allow even young children access to good literature and complex ideas.  Don't water it down.  Nowhere is this more important with the Bible.  This is where Charlotte Mason intersects well with the Classical method.  Even if a child doesn't completely understand these complex ideas, they are building a foundation of facts from which they will start to construct their worldview as their brains mature and grow.

Bottom line: Don't be afraid to talk to your children about these questions.  {Even when they refuse to do the corresponding coloring page.}

How have you kept your kids in the Word this week?  Leave a comment or link up a blog post.  {See guidelines here.}
