This is day 19 of 31 Days of Finding Joy in Depression. Yesterday, I shared about routines and depression. Today, organization and depression.
You be might wondering what organization has to do with depression. When things are disorganized, I become overwhelmed. It seems easier to quit and do nothing, especially on a bad day. Like routines help me know what is next or what needs to be done, being organized helps me accomplish things quickly and easily.
There's a place for the bills. There's a place for the schoolwork. There's a place for the meal planning. There's a place for reading. Spaces have purpose and the needed things are kept there. When I know where to go to do something and where the materials are that I need, I'm more likely to take care of a task.
Don't get me wrong. I do have piles. I do have clutter. But, I go on regular purges and organizing sprees. I use tools like my phone, my todo list program, and more to help me stay organized. I try to write things down and store thoughts electronically rather than in my head.
Moving towards a more organized and simplified life helps me focus on what is most important on the days that managing my depression is more difficult.
Are you organized? How does it help your depression to be organized?
