Disclosure: I received a copy of Altar Ego from the Book Sneeze program in exchange for an honest review.
Craig Groeschel is one of my favorite Christian Living authors and speakers. I love reading his books and hearing him speak. His writing voice is so similar to his speaking voice that you can almost hear him as you read. I'd put Altar Ego right up there with the rest of his books that I've read.
Altar Ego talks about forgetting who you think you are and grabbing hold of who God says you are. The play on the word “altar” is great. It gives this great imagery of super heroes and hidden identities but it turned around to show that we must sacrifice who we think we are in order to take on who God wants us to be.
Here are some of my favorite quotes:
- Christ became my identity. pg. 11
- You were made for more than you've settled for. pg. 19
- When you know who you are, you'll know what to do. pg. 46
- Practicing integrity means that you behavior matches your beliefs. pg. 104
- I've always found it interesting that people ask why bad things happen to them, but they rarely ask why good things happen to them. These attitudes reflect reflect the false belief that we don't deserve bad but we do deserve good. pg. 145
Living in Christ's identity seems so complicated, but Craig makes it simple to understand. As usual, he is able to pack so much into a sentence that the truth of it just resonates in your soul.
