My quest for great apps to supplement homeschooling curriculum continues!  My latest find: Splash Math Grade 1 from StudyPad, Inc.

Jonathan is currently 4.5 years old and in Kindergarten.  He loves math and is advanced in both math and reading.  We dropped Saxon Math K a few months ago and I'm now using Math Mammoth as our primary homeschool curriculum for math.  Splash Math Grade 1 seemed like it would be a great fit for his current math level and his love for Mommy's iPad.

Here's Jonathan to give you a little peak into the app and some of his thoughts:

Can't see the video in your email or RSS reader?

My thoughts in one word?  Amazing.  Seriously amazing.

Here's what I like about Splash Math Grade 1:

  • Easy to use and navigate.
  • Nice interface.
  • Graphics are well done.
  • Comprehensive: Many different math areas are covered at several different levels within the grade.
  • Questions are well worded and easy to understand.
  • There's a practice and a testing section.
  • There's an admin area where you can turn topics on or off to limit areas to be practiced or tested.
  • You can have an email sent to you each week showing your child's progress.
  • Fun rewards area, but not so entertaining that it detracts from the math and learning for too long.

Something to note: Your child does need to be able to read or you will need to read the questions for him/her.  The app does not read the questions for your child.  I personally like that Jonathan has to read the questions for himself.

Now for the downside: It is a pricey app.  It will set you back $9.99 as of the writing of this review.  The quality and scope of the app is worth the price.  If you're comfortable with elementary math, this really could function as your primary homeschool curriculum.  And for $10, that is a good deal.

Additional apps and grade levels are also available from StudyPad, Inc.
