Confession: I picked Unveiling the Kings of Israel from Master Books more for me than for Jonathan and our homeschool! I have a Master's degree in Old Testament Studies and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. At the same time, I did hope that it would be a nice reference book for our homeschool.
From the title, Unveiling the Kings of Israel, I expected the book to cover the kings of Israel and the divided kingdom, but it is so much more than that. The book starts in Genesis and takes you all the way through to Jesus in the New Testament.
There are great pictures of locations in the Middle East and archeological artifacts as well as maps and timelines too. Plenty of examples of historical and archeological evidence are given to back up the Biblical accounts and stories. I like how the format follows a Biblical chronology making it easy to find the locations or stories that you want to read about.
We've been reading Story of the World and learning about ancient peoples in the fertile crescent. Jonathan was a little disappointed that the first map he found in the book didn't have Ur marked on it. I had to explain that this map was of modern Israel. A few pages later, he was quite excited to find several pages that talked about Abraham and his favorite ancient city.
Master Books has published another wonderful reference book that will be used frequently in our homeschool and personal study times.
