I can't believe that my four year old is listening to and loving The Hobbit. We tried The Chronicles of Narnia late last summer, but it was too much for him to pay attention to. Jonathan has grown so much in the last 6-8 months. Now, most nights, he can easily listen to 1/3 to 1/2 of a chapter in The Hobbit. He can usually answer basic questions about what is happening in the story. Last night we asked him about his favorite and least favorite things so far in the book. He said that he likes Bilbo because he feet are furry. Josh said he think that Jonathan also likes Bilbo because he likes to eat. Jonathan said that his least favorite character is Gollum. I had to agree with him.
Our copy of The Hobbit put the “songs” in italics. Jonathan sometimes tries to follow along on the page and decided that he needed to read these parts himself. He is actually reading parts of The Hobbit for himself!
