This is day 12 of 31 Days of Finding Joy in Depression. Yesterday, I shared about natural treatments and remedies for depression. Today, I'm discussing knowing your triggers for depression.
Sometimes depression is made worse by certain triggers. You know, the stress that makes you feel like you want pull your hair out? Or the frustrations that make you want to hide under the covers… for an extra day.
Once you've found a way to manage your depression, whether by medication or natural remedies, you have to know what causes or makes your depression worse. What are the things that cause you to become out of control or hit a low period. Here are some things to think about:
- Certain people?
- Certain situations?
- Past experiences?
- Holidays?
- Family?
- Anniversaries or events?
- Finances?
- Work?
- Lack of sleep?
- Other stress?
Some of these were my triggers. They made the normal days difficult or threw me into double depression days. I had to make tough decisions to remove myself from certain situations and people. For those that I couldn't get away from, I had to make conscious decisions to deal with them and not let the hurts from them fester.
What are the triggers for your depression? How do you deal with them?
