I took this video while Jonathan was reading a couple nights ago. It is fairly long. I pieced together multiple clips that I took using my phone. You'll see and hear how he sounds out words, can get frustrated at times, and he's a wiggly little boy 🙂
The book is a Pathway Reader, which made by an Amish publishing company and designed for use in Amish schools. It is a whole language reader that fits well with the phonics approach that we've been using with Spell to Write & Read. It was recommended to us at the HINTS Homeschool Fair back in July. This book is the 1st Grade Pre-Primer; we call it his special pink reading book. He has been working on this book for about 4 weeks and as of last night, he has one story left. Until the past week or so, this is the only book he'd try to read other than the Bob Books. We're also making our way through the companion workbook. Now, Jonathan will try to read almost anything and can get very excited when he finds a word that he's seen in his “pink book” somewhere else.
