Defining Patience
Israel and Brook lay out a lot of qualities of patience in this chapter. They illustrate what patience is and what it isn't.
Patience is active. It's not sitting around being passive and waiting for things to happen to us. Patience is strong and encouraging.
But, patience doesn't look past sin or hide sin. It's not necessarily quiet, but it always speaks in love.
Patience is strong like a sword in the hands of a skilled warrior. It's a fire that burns slowly at first but grows when tended to and fed.
I've never though of patience being active. I've always wrongly thought of patience as being a state of passive waiting. But true patience has a strong sense of self-control and acting in love towards others. It's not being a push over or an enabler. It's about pointing people back to God and helping them grow in the Spirit too.
