Your diet can really affect how well your depression is managed. I don’t think that there is a one size fits all approach when it comes to your diet, but eating things that don’t sit well with your body will cause damage and worsen depression.
For me, this means carbs and sugar. Some of this has to do with my PCOD. I’m border line insulin resistant. My body doesn’t process sugar well. I try to avoid too much bread and sugar. Even too much fruit can have an adverse effect for me. The best option for me has been a low-carb diet.
What is the result? I get easily overwhelmed and feel out of control when I’m loading up on too much sugar and carbs. When I load up on meat and veggies, I feel more even and my depression feels more managed.
How does food affect your depression? Do you notice differences in your depression based on what you’ve eaten?

I’m linking up with The Nester and others who are writing 31 posts this month on various topics. I’m not a doctor or a counselor and this is not intended to be medical advice. This is simply the story of my experience with depression.
