What is Patience?
I've always said, I'm not a patient person. I'm a planner not a wait-er. I'm naturally frustratable and anxious.
But what is patience? The Biblical reality is patience is a fruit of the Spirit. It's not something in or of myself. Patience is developed in me by the Holy Spirit. I'm not a patient person and on my own, I never can be.
Pushing the Buttons of My (Im)Patience
Our kids are like little mirrors. Their behaviors and attitudes so often reflect the things in ourselves that we hate. Every day, my boys push my buttons and show my every, single, tiny flaw in myself.
I will never be a patient person, but, I can develop the fruit of patience. If I allow my circumstances and my little button pushers bring me to anger, I'll never develop that patience. Instead if I chose to trust Jesus and remain in the Spirit, I can allow these things to grow the fruit of patience in me.
